You’re showing up, doing your best, checking every box, but still feel like something’s missing. You’re tired of pushing through, of being the reliable one while quietly running on empty. But when you’ve spent so long keeping it together for everyone else, you find yourself wondering, “When did it start feeling so hard to just be okay?”
At The Prism Practice, we offer online individual therapy in New York to help create a life that feels grounded, intentional, and authentic.

Is Individual Therapy Right for Me?
Therapy can help whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, or simply needing a space to work through stress and big decisions. Many people seek support around:
- Anxiety, stress, or burnout
- Depression or loss of motivation
- Low self-esteem and perfectionism
- Identity or life transitions
- Relationship challenges or boundaries
- Grief, loss, or major change
- Work-life balance and career concerns
Sometimes, the hardest part is is facing the unknown and admitting you’re ready for things to feel different. The truth is, everyone has patterns of thinking, reacting, or coping that once helped but now hold you back. Online individual therapy in New York helps you make sense of those patterns, shift them, and start experiencing life in a way that feels more grounded, balanced, and true to you.

APPROACHES WE INCORPORATE
Into Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps you recognize and reframe the unhelpful thought patterns that fuel anxiety, depression, and self-criticism. By learning to challenge these beliefs and replace them with more balanced perspectives, you can build confidence, improve your mood, and feel more in control of your emotions and reactions.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT supports you in making space for difficult emotions instead of fighting them. Through clarifying your values and committing to actions that align with what matters most, you can create a life that feels more authentic, grounded, and fulfilling, even when things feel uncertain.
Relational & Attachment-Based Therapy
This approach focuses on how your early experiences and current relationships shape the way you connect with yourself and others. By exploring these patterns in a safe and supportive space, you can build self-trust, strengthen communication, and experience more secure, balanced connections.
Mindfulness & Somatic Techniques
Mindfulness and body-based strategies help you tune into your nervous system, recognize your stress signals, and find calm in the present moment. Over time, these practices reduce reactivity, improve focus, and restore a sense of balance and ease in your daily life.
Insight-Oriented Therapy
Insight-oriented therapy encourages deep self-reflection to uncover how past experiences influence your current emotions and choices. By bringing awareness to these connections, you can release old patterns, develop compassion for yourself, and make meaningful, lasting change.
Parts Work (IFS-Informed)
Parts Work helps you understand and connect with the different parts of yourself, like the inner critic, the caretaker, or the part that feels overwhelmed. By building compassionate awareness of these parts instead of fighting them, you can develop greater self-acceptance, patience, and confidence.

ABOUT US
Why Work With
THE PRISM PRACTICE
We believe true change begins with a shift in perspective—and that shift is only possible when you feel supported enough to share your story openly.
Like a prism refracting light into a spectrum of colors, therapy helps you see yourself and your experiences in new ways. What once felt stuck or unchangeable begins to shift, opening space for fresh possibilities, new insights, and a deeper understanding of who you are.
At The Prism Practice, our approach is tailored to who you are and where you are right now. We take a whole-person approach to healing—connecting mind, body, emotions, and the stories you’ve carried from your past. Through this lens, therapy becomes a space to explore, reconnect, and transform.
Therapy doesn’t change who you are; it helps you see yourself more clearly, uncover your strengths, and make the shifts that bring real, lasting change.
Something has to change for something to change. Let’s start today.
At The Prism Practice, these values are at the heart of our approach :
Authenticity & Deep Understanding
Healing begins when you feel truly seen. We create a space where you can show up as you are—without judgment—to rediscover your true self and build relationships rooted in your values.
Empowerment Through Self-Awareness
Insight drives change. By understanding your patterns and emotions, you gain the clarity and confidence to make intentional choices instead of repeating old cycles.
Courage in Vulnerability & Growth
Growth takes courage. We support you in stepping into discomfort and emotional risk—because real healing happens when you show up fully and embrace what’s possible.
Our Approach
How Our Individual Therapy Works
1. Explore & Understand
We start by getting a clear picture of your story, what’s been weighing on you, and what you’d like to feel different. Together, we’ll explore your current challenges, including support for parents, emotional patterns, and strengths, to build a foundation of understanding and trust. From there, we’ll outline clear goals and create a plan that fits your needs and pace.
2. Shift & Strengthen
Once we’ve identified the patterns that keep you stuck, we’ll work on developing new ways of thinking, coping, and responding. This may include building emotional awareness, learning grounding tools for anxiety or depression, and strengthening your ability to navigate stress and relationships with more confidence and calm.
3. Integrate & Thrive
As therapy continues, you’ll begin to notice subtle but meaningful shifts in your everyday life. Over time, the insight and self-awareness you gain in session begin to show up naturally in your everyday life, shaping how you relate, make choices, and move through the world.

QUESTIONS ABOUT
Individual Therapy
What happens in the first session, and how do I get started?
Once we’ve connected by phone and found a time that works, you’ll complete a few short forms before your first online session. During that first meeting, we’ll talk about your goals, what’s been working or not working, and what has brought you to therapy now. Together, we’ll identify one or two priorities and create a plan that fits your needs. Each session is designed to help you leave with a small, realistic step you can take to start seeing progress and feeling more in control of your growth.
How long does therapy take, and how often do we meet?
The length of therapy depends on your goals, the depth of what you’re working through, and the pace that feels right for you. Some people come for a few weeks, others for several months or longer. We’ll decide together how often to meet and revisit this as you progress.
As a general guide:
- 6 to 12 sessions often help with specific issues or skill-building
- 3 to 6 months allows for symptom relief and lasting change
- 6 months or more supports deeper exploration of identity, attachment, or long-term stress
We check in on your goals every few sessions and adjust as needed.
What does a typical session look like, and is online therapy effective?
Every session is different, but most begin with a brief check-in followed by focused work on what feels most important that day. Sessions close with a reflection or simple practice you can use between meetings.
Online therapy is designed to be just as effective as in-person sessions, with clear goals, evidence-based tools, and a strong therapeutic connection. Many people even find it more effective because it’s easier to stay consistent and feel comfortable in their own space. If an issue ever seems better suited for in-person care, we’ll talk through your options together.
Will I get practical tools, or is it mostly talking? What if I don’t know what to talk about?
You’ll get both. Sessions blend reflection and emotional insight with tools and exercises you can apply in daily life. It’s completely fine if you’re not sure what to say; therapy often starts with sorting through thoughts and feelings that aren’t clear yet. Your therapist will help you slow down, notice what’s coming up, and follow what feels most meaningful.
How do I know if I really need individual therapy?
Therapy can be helpful if you’ve been feeling anxious, stuck, drained, or unsure how to move forward. It can also help if you’re struggling with depression, low self-esteem, relationship stress, or life transitions. If something feels off or you simply want more clarity and balance, therapy is worth exploring. It’s not a quick fix, but over time it helps you understand yourself more deeply, break old patterns, and build lasting tools for navigating life with ease.
